Wanted: Your Christmas Cards of Kindness

Can you help our residents across ten homes to unlock their memories of Christmases past, as they enjoy Christmas present with family, friends and our staff members?  We're asking for your Christmas Cards of Kindness, wherever you are in the world! We'd like you to fill your cards with happy memories of your own Christmases past, and remind our residents of some of the things they might have received, experienced and enjoyed in years gone by. What are your favourite Christmas  memories? What were, and are your own Christmas traditions? Your recollections could help our residents to recall what their Christmases sounded, smelled and tasted like, and will inspire moments of nostalgia that really enrich the lives of those we work with, and for -  particularly those who may be confused by the appearance of paraphernalia that might be alien to what they remember Christmas to be .  We're keen to learn more about Christmases around the world, too. We're asking f...

Cedar Court Dementia Care Home's Visit to Sudbury Hall and The Museum of Childhood

The day couldn't have been better for our visit to the National Trust Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood yesterday; the sun was shining brightly and the wind, though chilly, kept at bay as our residents made their way into the museum. We had plenty of blankets for the occasion, too! Accompanying staff members were Kath, Ken and Barbara, who enjoyed the minibus journey immensely. We were ready for an afternoon trip down memory lane... Sudbury Hall is currently closed to visitors as staff members and volunteers prepare the venue for Christmas. The 17th Century hall is getting ready to sparkle in time for the festive season, and we can't wait to see pictures of it in all its glory. However, we'd come to take a look at the collections of old toys and games in anticipation of our December theme of childhood, playfulness and imagination. Ken, Barbara and Kath were looking forward to reacquainting themselves with some of their favourite nicknacks from years gone by ...

Congratulations are in order at Langwith Lodge Residential Home

After a delicious three-course meal and a tense wait we were thrilled to discover that we'd won not one, but two awards at last night's  Great British Care Awards East Midlands Awards. Langwith Lodge Residential Home's manager Zoe Searston secured the East Midlands Registered Care Manager Award, while activities co-ordinator Janet Mansbridge won the East Midlands Activities Co-ordinator Award. The awards are hotly contested, and we were so delighted to hear the ladies' names read out. The awards are thoroughly deserved, and stand as a testament to Zoe and Janet's hard work, passion, dedication and care. Langwith Lodge is a wonderful place for residents and staff, and that's because of the amazing team Zoe has in place. Well done, ladies. We are so proud of you! A special mention must go to our Health, Safety and Training Manager Mick Murphy. He was nominated for the East Midlands Care Trainer Award, and secured a runner-up position. Again, we are so p...

Cedar Court Dementia Care Home's Newest Residents

We would like to take a moment to introduce you to Minnie, Mo and Dot (in that order). These beautiful girls have moved into a palace at Cedar Court Dementia Care Home, where they will spend their time soothing staff members and residents with plenty of cuddles, squeaks of support and thoroughly adorable escapades. Having moved in on Friday the girls have already met many of the residents, and have elicited smiles and coos from just about everyone they met along the way. One gentleman was particularly taken with the 'lovely' piggy he found in his hands, while another resident commented on the guinea pigs that she'd kept when she was younger. Our hope is that Minnie, Mo and Dot will help to ease the anxiety that many of our residents experience during the course of living with dementia. Their soft, snuggly fur is a wonderful antidote to stress, while the squeaks and chirrups that they emit has already helped those that they have met to smile. Staff members will be j...

30 Days Wild has become 365 Days Wild for Langwith Lodge Residential Home

We are so excited to announce that Langwith Lodge Residential Home has partnered with the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and adopted a new role as a Wildlife Guardian. As well as sponsoring and supporting the valuable work of the Trust the home has pledged to do so much more for the wildlife living on and around its grounds; there are plans afoot for more bird boxes, a wildflower meadow, better access across the landscape for all residents and identification workshops. This new relationship comes as a result of the home's participation in Wildlife Trust challenge 30 Days Wild this June. Inspiring people to do just one random act of wild per day the initiative aims to show us all just how easy it is to interact with nature. The home's staff and residents made daisy chains, ate lunch outside beside the lake and looked out for all manner of birds and beasties over the course of the month - and had a wonderful time doing so. Manager Zoe noted how the home's fall rate r...

Children and residents bring out the best in one another

We'd like to take a moment to tell you about a brand new initiative being run at one of our homes. Since the beginning of term children from the nearby Whaley Thorns School have been visiting Langwith Lodge Residential Home, and the   group has formed some fast friendships in a very short space of time. The  brainchild of headteacher Annette Lupton and home manager Zoe Searston the initiative aims to bring the generations together in a warm, comfortable and relaxed environment. The old and young still have so much to teach, and learn from one another - least of all the ability to have fun! Residents  Tony, Janet, Fred, Al, Margaret, Norma, Rosa, Baz, Eileen, Dulcie, Gail and Violet are seen here with their new partners in crime. They have loved every moment of getting to know their four and five-year old friends, as you can perhaps tell from those beaming smiles. Just weeks into their friendships the residents and school children have completed exercise classe...
