Wanted: Your Christmas Cards of Kindness

Can you help our residents across ten homes to unlock their memories of Christmases past, as they enjoy Christmas present with family, friends and our staff members?

We're asking for your Christmas Cards of Kindness, wherever you are in the world! We'd like you to fill your cards with happy memories of your own Christmases past, and remind our residents of some of the things they might have received, experienced and enjoyed in years gone by. What are your favourite Christmas memories? What were, and are your own Christmas traditions? Your recollections could help our residents to recall what their Christmases sounded, smelled and tasted like, and will inspire moments of nostalgia that really enrich the lives of those we work with, and for - particularly those who may be confused by the appearance of paraphernalia that might be alien to what they remember Christmas to be

We're keen to learn more about Christmases around the world, too. We're asking for anecdotes, poetry and prose, and the odd photo if you have anything particularly nostalgic to share. Who knows, you may well remember something that makes you smile, too.

We're hoping that all of our homes will receive cards, to inspire happiness, reminiscence and wellbeing far and wide. Therefore, please choose any (or all) of our homes for your Christmas Card of Kindness:

Christmas Cards of Kindness

If you follow our Postcards of Kindness project on Facebook you'll know we recently partnered with thortful.com cards to raise money for Dementia Adventure via a very special collection of postcards. Detailed below, the concepts for the cards were developed by members of the charity's special interest group, each one living with a form of dementia, and brought to life by members of thortful's community of creators. The idea is very simple; via the thortful app anyone will be able to choose a postcard and send Christmas wishes and memories to any of our 1,000+ care homes registered with Postcards of Kindness. 100% of the profits from each card's sale will go to Dementia Adventure, a charity that promotes, organises and funds outdoor adventures for those living with dementia. The hope is that each card will trigger nostalgia or inspire a conversation, to let care home residents know they're not alone this Christmas - a priceless outcome for just 99p. The cards can ...

Postcards Of Kindness Spreading Joy This Summer

Your postcards are making a real difference this summer, and beyond... Last year our care group launched the Postcards of Kindness appeal, which asked members of our homes' local communities to send postcards from wherever in the world they'd been on holiday. While we knew that some individuals were likely to receive cards from their own relatives we wanted to include everybody at each home; we wanted to ensure that no resident was left out, and make every adventure accessible to all. The response to our appeal was phenomenal, and thousands of cards from all around the world were received in a very short space of time. Not only did our homes receive postcards from friends, relatives and neighbours, but cards also came from people living on the other side of the world and everywhere in between. The senders were keen to share details of their hometowns and holidays, and inspire happy memories for our residents to share with staff members. Our campaign hoped to alleviate ...

Summer Fields Resident Honoured for Service During WW2

The best part of working so closely with residents is hearing their stories first hand. We love when residents engage with our staff members and tell them snippets, however small or seemingly irrelevant, of things that happened long ago. Those unlocked memories aid reminiscence therapy and help us to get to know our residents much better, as well as providing countless opportunities for meaningful conversations. Every now and again we hear something that's too special to keep to ourselves, and with the permission of resident John and his family we'd like to share his story... John lives in Summer Fields Care Home in the Wirral. During the Second World War he served as a sapper with the Royal Engineers 11th Armoured (Taurus) Division, and  was present at the D-Day Landings. He has spoken of landing on Juno Beach, and of his time building bridges that the Germans often destroyed. Staff members have been enthralled by his stories, and the additional facts that his family has...
