Zoe is an Outstanding Manager!

We'd like to take a moment to celebrate Zoe Searston, the Registered Manager at Langwith Lodge Residential Home. Zoe was given an Outstanding Performance Award at a recent managers' meeting for all of our homes, and we couldn't be prouder of her passion, commitment and determination.

Managing Director Vicki has said of Zoe:

"We knew immediately upon meeting her that Zoe would be the right fit for manager! Few people knew that our gem of a home existed, and we needed somebody like Zoe to get stuck in and change that.

Zoe has worked tirelessly over these past three years to put her own stamp on the home. She is also the Great British Care Awards East Midlands Registered Home Manager of the Year, and we all know why. Zoe is a fantastic manager, and always has residents' and team members' best interests at heart.

The addition of a dementia specialist at Langwith Lodge was a fantastic idea, presented and supported by Zoe and her team. This has seen the home's popularity shoot through the roof, and means it is able to offer even better care to those choosing Langwith Lodge.

I want to thank Zoe, and recognise her as the amazing career woman that she is. Zoe, you are marvellous and a real asset to your home and our team. Well done and thank you!"

High praise indeed, for somebody who truly deserves it.

Christmas Cards of Kindness

If you follow our Postcards of Kindness project on Facebook you'll know we recently partnered with thortful.com cards to raise money for Dementia Adventure via a very special collection of postcards. Detailed below, the concepts for the cards were developed by members of the charity's special interest group, each one living with a form of dementia, and brought to life by members of thortful's community of creators. The idea is very simple; via the thortful app anyone will be able to choose a postcard and send Christmas wishes and memories to any of our 1,000+ care homes registered with Postcards of Kindness. 100% of the profits from each card's sale will go to Dementia Adventure, a charity that promotes, organises and funds outdoor adventures for those living with dementia. The hope is that each card will trigger nostalgia or inspire a conversation, to let care home residents know they're not alone this Christmas - a priceless outcome for just 99p. The cards can

My Week With Your Health Limited

My work experience wasn’t what I had expected. As someone who has always wanted to work in care or medicine, going to a care home was my first thought when told I needed to find a work experience placement.  When Your Health Limited accepted me for the week, I was ecstatic. Yes, I couldn’t be based at a care home for the whole week, and that was slightly disappointing, but I could still experience what care was like, and get a look behind the scenes as well. The first care home I went to was Langwith Lodge, in Nottinghamshire.  Not having been to many care homes beforehand, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to see, or what to expect. Would everyone just stay in their beds, eating, sleeping and never truly aware of the world?  Whatever I expected, it didn’t come close to what I actually found.  The residents were moving freely around the home, engaging in the different activities on offer, chatting with the carers and other residents.  It was incredible; you’d almost never

Postcards Of Kindness Spreading Joy This Summer

Your postcards are making a real difference this summer, and beyond... Last year our care group launched the Postcards of Kindness appeal, which asked members of our homes' local communities to send postcards from wherever in the world they'd been on holiday. While we knew that some individuals were likely to receive cards from their own relatives we wanted to include everybody at each home; we wanted to ensure that no resident was left out, and make every adventure accessible to all. The response to our appeal was phenomenal, and thousands of cards from all around the world were received in a very short space of time. Not only did our homes receive postcards from friends, relatives and neighbours, but cards also came from people living on the other side of the world and everywhere in between. The senders were keen to share details of their hometowns and holidays, and inspire happy memories for our residents to share with staff members. Our campaign hoped to alleviate
