Congratulations are in order at Langwith Lodge Residential Home

After a delicious three-course meal and a tense wait we were thrilled to discover that we'd won not one, but two awards at last night's Great British Care Awards East Midlands Awards. Langwith Lodge Residential Home's manager Zoe Searston secured the East Midlands Registered Care Manager Award, while activities co-ordinator Janet Mansbridge won the East Midlands Activities Co-ordinator Award. The awards are hotly contested, and we were so delighted to hear the ladies' names read out. The awards are thoroughly deserved, and stand as a testament to Zoe and Janet's hard work, passion, dedication and care. Langwith Lodge is a wonderful place for residents and staff, and that's because of the amazing team Zoe has in place. Well done, ladies. We are so proud of you!

A special mention must go to our Health, Safety and Training Manager Mick Murphy. He was nominated for the East Midlands Care Trainer Award, and secured a runner-up position. Again, we are so pleased that Mick's commitment to his job has been recognised, and would like to congratulate him on another testament to his hard work.

Zoe was surprised, to say the least!

The ceremony was a dazzling event held at The East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. It was wonderful to be part of a celebration of care talent, and we'd like to take a moment to congratulate all of the winners and nominees. We certainly love our industry. The entertainment was provided by Chico - yes, he of Chico Time fame - and a wonderful East Midlands band called Stacking Up. To say we enjoyed the knees up is an understatement, but our main aim was to celebrate the achievements of those we work, for and alongside every single day.

We knew she could do it; Janet receives her award

Winners! Zoe and Janet take a moment to celebrate their awards

Mick in action; we are so pleased to have you!

Janet and Zoe will be heading to the National Finals of the Great British Care Awards in Birmingham in March of next year. Whatever happens we are so proud of them; all three of you are winners to us.

Christmas Cards of Kindness

If you follow our Postcards of Kindness project on Facebook you'll know we recently partnered with thortful.com cards to raise money for Dementia Adventure via a very special collection of postcards. Detailed below, the concepts for the cards were developed by members of the charity's special interest group, each one living with a form of dementia, and brought to life by members of thortful's community of creators. The idea is very simple; via the thortful app anyone will be able to choose a postcard and send Christmas wishes and memories to any of our 1,000+ care homes registered with Postcards of Kindness. 100% of the profits from each card's sale will go to Dementia Adventure, a charity that promotes, organises and funds outdoor adventures for those living with dementia. The hope is that each card will trigger nostalgia or inspire a conversation, to let care home residents know they're not alone this Christmas - a priceless outcome for just 99p. The cards can

My Week With Your Health Limited

My work experience wasn’t what I had expected. As someone who has always wanted to work in care or medicine, going to a care home was my first thought when told I needed to find a work experience placement.  When Your Health Limited accepted me for the week, I was ecstatic. Yes, I couldn’t be based at a care home for the whole week, and that was slightly disappointing, but I could still experience what care was like, and get a look behind the scenes as well. The first care home I went to was Langwith Lodge, in Nottinghamshire.  Not having been to many care homes beforehand, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to see, or what to expect. Would everyone just stay in their beds, eating, sleeping and never truly aware of the world?  Whatever I expected, it didn’t come close to what I actually found.  The residents were moving freely around the home, engaging in the different activities on offer, chatting with the carers and other residents.  It was incredible; you’d almost never

The National Citizen Service comes to Rider House Nursing Home

The staff and residents at Rider House Nursing Home in Burton on Trent would like to say a huge thank you to the young people and team leaders from our local National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, facilitated by the Burton Albion Community Trust, for your hard work, humour and passion during the week you spent at our home. We have loved getting to know you all, and everyone agrees that you’ve done some amazing work in the garden! That week showed us what community spirit is all about, and we’d like to wish you all every success in your future endeavours. What is the National Citizen Service? The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a government programme that empowers teenagers aged 15-17 years to be the best they can be, and discover just what they can do via a series of outdoor activities, workshops and community projects. They’re challenged by sports and team building activities, inspired to learn vital life skills and tasked with helping their local community, whil
